The National Vice Chairman (South-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has said that Nigeria’s priority ahead of the 2027 general elections should be the consolidation of ongoing economic reforms rather than abandoning them for what he described as “another political experiment.”
Reacting to comments made by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi during an interview on Channels Television, Arodiogbu stated that the current administration has laid a solid foundation for economic recovery and that sustained implementation of its policies will deliver greater prosperity for Nigerians.
Dr. Arodiogbu maintained that reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate adjustments and fiscal restructuring introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government particularly in the fiscal and monetary space were designed to reposition the economy for long-term growth and have begun to yield results that must be protected and built upon rather than discarded. He described calls for a complete reset as counterproductive at a time when the nation is navigating the difficult but necessary adjustments required for long-term stability and growth.
The APC South-East leader criticised what he characterised as Obi’s tendency to focus on problems without offering realistic, workable alternatives grounded in the present economic realities. He insisted that leadership at this stage of Nigeria’s journey should prioritise continuity, policy consistency, and the careful expansion of existing gains in revenue, infrastructure, rather than political rhetoric. He urged Nigerians to critically assess competing visions for the country based on facts, governance records and the capacity to sustain economic progress.
He further stated that the South-East and other parts of the country stand to benefit more from sustained implementation of reforms than from political rhetoric that seeks to discard the foundation already laid. He urged political actors to engage constructively with the ongoing economic trajectory rather than promote disruption for its own sake.
The APC chieftain also called on political leaders to place national interest above partisan considerations, stressing that economic stability, investor confidence, infrastructure development and job creation require continuity of well-designed policies rather than abrupt reversals. He expressed confidence that as the reforms mature, more Nigerians would begin to experience their benefits through improved investment, increased productivity and expanded economic opportunities.
Dr. Arodiogbu reaffirmed the APC’s position that Nigeria’s path forward lies in consolidating progress, refining policies where necessary, and delivering tangible dividends to citizens not in abandoning the reforms currently underway. He urged Nigerians to remain supportive of the federal government policies aimed at building a stronger, more resilient and globally competitive Nigerian economy ahead of the 2027 elections.
