The National Vice Chairman (South-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has strongly condemned opposition parties for launching attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the President’s recent remarks affirming the independence and neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking in a statement issued on Thursday, Dr. Arodiogbu described the opposition’s reaction as “desperate, baseless, and a clear indication of their fear of facing the electorate on a level playing field.”
President Tinubu, while receiving the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at the State House in Abuja, had defended INEC’s impartiality. He dismissed claims of bias by opposition figures, stating that the electoral body remains neutral and has never intimidated any political party. The President remarked that those “crying wolf” were merely afraid of their own shadows and the uncertainty of the companies they keep.
Dr. Arodiogbu said the opposition’s swift criticism of the President’s position exposes their lack of confidence in their own ability to compete fairly.
“President Tinubu simply stated the obvious: INEC is an independent institution and will conduct the 2027 elections without fear or favour. Instead of preparing their structures and presenting credible alternatives to Nigerians, the opposition has chosen the path of blackmail and propaganda,” Arodiogbu stated.
He accused the opposition of attempting to undermine public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing their tactics as “the last refuge of politicians who know they cannot win the argument of performance and good governance.”
The APC South-East leader further noted that the Tinubu administration’s commitment to institutional integrity remains firm. He urged opposition parties to channel their energy into constructive engagement rather than continuous attacks on the President and critical national institutions.
“Nigerians are watching. Those who have nothing to offer beyond noise and division will be exposed at the polls. The APC under President Tinubu is focused on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda, not responding to every distraction from desperate opponents,” Arodiogbu added.
He called on supporters of the ruling party across the country, particularly in the South-East, to remain vigilant and continue mobilising for the success of the APC in the forthcoming elections.
