The National Vice-Chairman (South-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has dismissed the one-tenure presidential pledge made by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, describing it as unreliable and inconsistent with the former Anambra State governor’s past political conduct.

Arodiogbu warned that Obi’s public commitment to serve only a single four-year term if elected in 2027 cannot be trusted, pointing to an earlier vow the former governor made regarding the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

According to the APC chieftain, Obi had previously declared that he would never leave APGA, the platform on which he served as governor of Anambra State. Despite that public assurance, Obi later exited the party and has since moved through several political platforms, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and now the NDC.

“Peter Obi’s promise of serving for only one term cannot be taken at face value. Nigerians remember that he once vowed not to leave APGA, but he eventually left the party”.  Arodiogbu stated  framing the earlier APGA commitment as evidence of a pattern in which solemn political promises are abandoned when circumstances change.

He argued that leadership requires consistency, trust and a demonstrated commitment to institutions, adding that political calculations should not override the need for stability and continuity in governance.

Arodiogbu further praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a leader with a long-standing record of consistency, institution-building and developing political and human capital.

“President Tinubu has shown over the years that he understands the importance of building institutions and empowering people. His political journey reflects consistency and commitment to long-term development,” he stated.

The APC South East leader maintained that Nigeria requires leaders who can make difficult decisions, build sustainable systems and remain committed to their promises.

He urged Nigerians to carefully examine the records of all political actors ahead of 2027, saying that the future of the country is safe under President Tinubu, who has proven capacity, experience and consistency.

“Elections are about trust. Nigerians must look beyond promises and consider the character, history and achievements of those seeking to lead the country,” Arodiogbu added.
