The Forum of Media Aides to APC National Working Committee Members (FOMATAN) has watched with deep concern the unfolding developments surrounding the All Progressives Congress ticket for Imo West Senatorial District.
We state, without ambiguity or equivocation, that we stand solidly with His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, CON, the Governor of Imo State, and with the authentic South-East APC structure in this matter.
The May 18, 2026 APC senatorial primary for Imo West produced a clear outcome. Governor Hope Uzodinma emerged the winner with the overwhelming support of the majority of party members, as duly declared by the party’s constituted primary election committee and recognised through the processes of the party. That outcome reflects the will of the greater number of APC stakeholders in Imo West and aligns with the internal democratic processes of our great party.
Any attempt to overturn or undermine that collective decision through protracted litigation and conflicting narratives does not serve the interest of the APC, the South-East, or the larger progressive family.
FOMATAN rejects the notion that the party’s internal processes and the clear preference of its members can be casually set aside. Political parties are not mere platforms for individual ambition; they are organised structures bound by rules, hierarchy, and the collective will of members.
Governor Uzodinma did not impose himself on the party. He contested, he secured the support of the majority, and the party apparatus recognised that victory. To now seek to nullify that outcome through legal technicalities and alternative vote claims is an assault on party supremacy and internal democracy.
We make it clear: Rochas Okorocha’s challenge, however packaged, runs contrary to the stability, unity, and strategic direction of the APC in the South-East. The South-East APC under the leadership and influence of Governor Hope Uzodinma and Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu has recorded measurable progress in party organisation, electoral competitiveness, and alignment with the national leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Any action that seeks to fracture that cohesion, reopen old wounds, or prioritise personal interest over collective strength must be resisted by every progressive who truly values the future of the party in the zone.
FOMATAN therefore affirms the following:
- His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma, remains the authentic and legitimate candidate of the APC for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primary with the clear support of the majority of party members.
- The Imo State chapter of the APC is right to insist on the primacy of its internal processes and the outcome of the primary. Party organs, not external interpretations, determine the authentic will of members.
- The South-East APC must close ranks around its established leadership and structures. Attempts to create parallel centres of authority or to weaponise the courts against the party’s internal decisions only weaken our collective capacity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
- We call on all genuine members and stakeholders of the APC in Imo West and across the South-East to remain calm, disciplined, and focused. The party’s interest must supersede personal ambition. Loyalty to the party structure is non-negotiable.
Governor Hope Uzodinma has demonstrated capacity, resilience, and commitment to the progressive cause in Imo State and the South-East. His leadership has strengthened the APC in a zone where the party continues to expand its influence. Supporting him is not about personality; it is about protecting the integrity of the party’s processes and safeguarding the strategic gains recorded under his watch.
FOMATAN urges the national leadership of the APC, relevant party organs, and all well-meaning stakeholders to stand firmly with the authentic outcome of the primary and with the South-East APC structure. The path of party discipline, internal democracy, and collective strength is the only path that guarantees victory in 2027.
We remain resolute. The APC in the South-East will not be distracted. Governor Hope Uzodinma has the backing of the majority, and FOMATAN stands with that majority.
