SOUTH EAST GAS PIPELINE LAUNCH: Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, Gov. Peter Mbah, Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu, SEDC MD, Others attend Launch of South East Gas Pipeline

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) South East Co-Coordinator and National Vice Chairman (South East), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, on Tuesday joined Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu; the Managing Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mr. Mark Okoye; and other critical stakeholders at the official launch of the South East Gas Pipeline Infrastructure Project in Enugu.

The high-profile ceremony, held at Hotel Presidential, Enugu, marked the formal commencement of a landmark $100 million investment agreement for a 400-kilometre high-pressure gas distribution pipeline network designed to link the ANOH Gas Processing Plant in Imo State to major industrial and commercial centres across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event and described the project as a strategic intervention that would unlock the industrial potential of the South East, reduce energy costs for manufacturers, attract investments, and create jobs across the region.

Governor Peter Mbah, who has been a strong advocate of the regional gas pipeline, commended President Tinubu for establishing the SEDC and for supporting the project. He described the initiative as a major step towards addressing the energy challenges that have long constrained industrial growth in the zone.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu hailed the launch as a clear demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to inclusive development and the economic transformation of the South East.

“This gas pipeline project is a game-changer for our region,” Dr. Arodiogbu stated. “It will provide reliable and affordable energy to our industries in Aba, Nnewi, Onitsha, Enugu and beyond. It is a practical expression of President Tinubu’s determination to industrialise the South East and integrate the zone more fully into the national economy.”

He congratulated the SEDC under the leadership of its Managing Director, Mr. Mark Okoye, and the Board for prioritising a project with direct impact on manufacturing, job creation, and regional competitiveness.

Dr. Arodiogbu noted that the successful take-off of the gas pipeline reinforces the importance of strategic alignment with the centre, adding that Ndigbo stand to benefit significantly from continued partnership with the Tinubu administration.

He called on stakeholders across the South East to support the speedy implementation of the project and to sustain the collaborative spirit that made the launch possible.

The event attracted a cross-section of political leaders, captains of industry, traditional rulers, and development partners who described the South East Gas Pipeline as one of the most significant infrastructure initiatives for the region in recent years.
