Says Tinubu’s Reforms Are Putting Nigeria on the Path of Greatness, Calls for Re-election and APC Victory in 2027
The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (South East), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu MBBS, Phd, has reacted strongly to a viral video featuring Professor James Robinson, the renowned co-author of the global bestseller Why Nations Fail and 2024 Nobel Prize laureate in Economic Sciences.
In the widely circulated clip, Professor Robinson, a leading authority on institutional economics and political economy at the Havard University and University of Chicago, reflected on the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State.
Robinson stated unequivocally: “Bola Tinubu as Lagos State Governor did fantastic things which turned around the fortunes of Lagos. If he can achieve 50% of that nationally, Nigeria will be a great country.”
Responding to the video, Dr. Arodiogbu described Robinson’s remarks as a significant external validation of President Tinubu’s proven capacity for transformative leadership. He said the comments from one of the world’s foremost scholars on why nations succeed or fail should encourage Nigerians to look beyond short-term difficulties and recognise the long-term national potential of the current reform agenda.
“Professor James Robinson is not a Nigerian politician seeking votes. He is a global intellectual whose work with Daron Acemoglu has fundamentally shaped modern understanding of inclusive versus extractive institutions,” Dr. Arodiogbu said in a detailed statement.
“When a scholar of his stature examines what Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu achieved in Lagos dramatically expanding internally generated revenue, modernising critical infrastructure, strengthening the security and administrative architecture, and creating a more predictable environment for business and concludes that even 50 percent of that performance at the national level would make Nigeria a great country, we must take it seriously.”
Dr. Arodiogbu stated that the reforms being implemented by President Tinubu since May 2023 particularly the removal of the unsustainable fuel subsidy, the unification of the multiple foreign exchange windows, ongoing tax reforms, and efforts to improve the overall investment climate are precisely the kind of foundational institutional changes that Robinson’s research identifies as necessary for sustained prosperity.
“These reforms are putting Nigeria on the path of greatness,” the APC National Vice Chairman declared. “They are deliberately dismantling long-standing extractive practices that allowed a few to benefit while the majority paid the price through distorted prices, fiscal leakages, and weak public finances.
Just as Lagos under Tinubu shifted from heavy dependence on federal allocations toward greater self-reliance and strategic investment, the national reforms are aimed at rebuilding fiscal discipline, attracting productive capital, and creating space for private-sector-led growth across the federation.”
He noted that while the transitional effects of the reforms have brought temporary hardship in the form of higher living costs for many households, such pain is the inevitable cost of correcting decades of postponed structural problems.
“No serious student of development expects transformation without short-term costs,” he said. “What matters is the direction of travel. Robinson’s observation reminds us that the direction is correct.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Dr. Arodiogbu issued a clear call for continuity. He urged Nigerians to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to vote massively for the All Progressives Congress.
“Nigerians should re-elect President Tinubu and vote APC in 2027,” he stated. “The hard decisions have already been taken. The foundation for a more competitive, fiscally responsible, and institutionally stronger Nigeria is being laid. Changing direction midway would waste the sacrifices already made by citizens and delay the national prosperity that even a partial replication of the Lagos success story can deliver, according to Professor Robinson.”
