ARODIOGBU WELCOMES FG’S LAUNCH OF SPARK USSD CODE IN ABIA DESCRIBES *347*333# INITIATIVE AS GAME-CHANGER FOR SMEs AND FAMILIES

APC National Vice Chairman, South-East and the South East APC PCC Zonal Co-cordinator, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu MBBS, Phd, has welcomed the Federal Government’s launch of the SPARK USSD code in Abia State, describing it as an intervention aimed at expanding economic opportunities, supporting small businesses and improving the livelihoods of Nigerian families.

Arodiogbu particularly commended the Federal Government and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) for introducing the USSD-based platform that enables eligible Nigerians to access credit using ordinary mobile phones without requiring smartphones or internet connectivity.

SPARK was unveiled by CREDICORP during its CREDICORP for All showcase in Aba, Abia State, as an entry-level consumer credit product designed particularly for first-time borrowers and Nigerians with limited formal credit histories.

The platform is designed to operate through the USSD code *347*333#, allowing eligible users to initiate access to credit through basic mobile phones.

The initiative is expected to support the acquisition of essential goods and productive assets while helping beneficiaries establish formal credit histories through responsible borrowing and repayment.

Arodiogbu said the introduction of SPARK represents an important step towards making consumer credit more accessible to ordinary Nigerians, particularly small business owners, traders, young entrepreneurs, workers and families seeking financial support to acquire essential goods and productive assets.

He described this feature as significant, particularly for Nigerians in rural communities, market women, artisans and small-scale traders who may have limited access to conventional financial services.

The APC National Vice Chairman further observed that the initiative could strengthen local production and commerce by increasing consumers’ ability to acquire essential household items, business equipment and productive assets through structured financing.

He also acknowledged the importance of the Aba launch, noting that Abia State, with its vibrant commercial and manufacturing ecosystem, provides a relevant setting for demonstrating how consumer credit can support entrepreneurship and economic development.
