APC PCC INAUGURATION: PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMITTED TO BREAKING SHACKLES OF POVERTY IN NIGERIA – HON. PRINCESS GLORIA AKOBUNDU

As ruling party launches Presidential Campaign Council with cross-party figures, Akobundu hails Tinubu’s economic reforms as the pathway to lifting millions out of poverty

Honourable Princess Gloria Akobundu Phd, fsi, APC PCC Secretary Faith Based Mobilisation and key member of Apc Pcc Women Mobilksation Wing has described the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) as a clear demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to breaking the longstanding shackles of poverty that have held millions of Nigerians down for decades.

Speaking shortly after the formal unveiling of the campaign council, which includes notable figures from outside the APC such as Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, Akobundu said the broad-based composition of the council reflects a national consensus around the President’s economic vision.

“President Tinubu is not merely seeking re-election; he is determined to complete the hard but necessary work of liberating Nigeria from the grip of poverty,” Akobundu stated. “The reforms he has courageously implemented, removing the fuel subsidy that enriched a few while impoverishing the many, unifying the foreign exchange market, and directing scarce resources toward productive sectors are already laying the foundation for shared prosperity. The inauguration of this inclusive Presidential Campaign Council shows that serious leaders across party lines recognise this reality.”

She noted that the presence of Governor Soludo, a renowned economist, and Governor Adeleke on the PCC sends a powerful message that the fight against poverty transcends political affiliations.

“When a respected technocrat like Soludo and a progressive governor like Adeleke join the effort, it is no longer about party colours. It is about Nigeria. It is about ensuring that the children of the poor have a genuine chance at a better life.”

Akobundu praised the Tinubu administration’s focus on structural economic reforms, arguing that previous attempts at poverty alleviation had largely failed because they treated symptoms rather than root causes.

“For too long, successive governments poured money into palliative programmes that created temporary relief but left the underlying systems of dependency intact. President Tinubu chose the harder path: fixing the fundamentals. The pain of adjustment is real, but it is the necessary price of lasting freedom from poverty.”

She pointed to rising foreign reserves, improved investor confidence, increased revenue for states following the removal of the fuel subsidy, and ongoing investments in infrastructure as early signs that the strategy is working.

“Poverty is not broken by slogans or endless handouts. It is broken by creating an economy that works, by building roads and rails that connect markets, by stabilising the currency so that businesses can plan, and by ensuring that government has the resources to invest in education, healthcare, and security. That is the path President Tinubu has chosen.”

Princess Akobundu further observed that the unity of governors and political leaders around the President’s re-election bid is itself a significant development in the war against poverty.

“When leaders stop fighting one another and begin to align behind a clear economic agenda, the country gains momentum. The APC’s decision to bring in capable hands from APGA and Accord shows maturity and seriousness. It tells Nigerians that the focus is delivery, not division.”

Akobundu called on other political actors, particularly those who contested the last presidential election, to recognise the national interest and support the ongoing reforms rather than seek to reverse them.

“Those who truly care about the poor must ask themselves whether endless political contestation helps or hinders the fight against poverty. President Tinubu has taken the difficult decisions. The results will not appear overnight, but the direction is clear. Joining this effort is the responsible choice.”

As the APC intensifies its preparations for the 2027 general elections, Party officials have indicated that the Presidential Campaign Council will prioritise grassroots engagement, highlighting tangible gains in infrastructure, agriculture, and social investment programmes while defending the necessity of the reforms already undertaken.

In her concluding remarks, Princess Gloria Akobundu struck a note of optimism mixed with resolve.

“Nigeria has been held captive by poverty for too long. President Tinubu is committed to breaking those chains. The inauguration of this Presidential Campaign Council, with its inclusive character, is further proof that the work is underway and that more hands are joining the task. History will remember those who stood with the people when the hard decisions had to be made.”

The APC Presidential Campaign Council is expected to begin full operations in the coming days with coordinated activities across the six geopolitical zones aimed at consolidating support for President Tinubu’s re-election on the platform of economic transformation and national renewal.
