The National Vice Chairman (South-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has described the Imo Digital City as Nigeria’s emerging Silicon Valley, hailing it as a transformative technology and innovation hub that is positioning Imo State and the entire South-East as a leading destination for digital enterprise in Africa.
In a statement reacting to the growing impact of the project, Dr. Arodiogbu praised Governor Hope Uzodinma for deliberate and visionary investments in digital infrastructure, skills development, and youth empowerment. He declared that the Imo Digital City is not merely a physical facility but a strategic engine for human capital development capable of producing the next generation of global technology leaders.
“Imo Digital City has the potential to become Nigeria’s Silicon Valley. It is a vision that goes beyond infrastructure; it is about creating a future where young Nigerians can develop ideas, build technology solutions, attract investments and compete globally. The success of Silicon Valley was built on talent, innovation and an environment that encouraged creativity. Imo has one of the highest concentrations of educated young people in Nigeria. With the right platform, our youths can become global technology leaders,” Dr. Arodiogbu stated.
The APC South-East leader described Imo State under Governor Uzodinma as a model that other states should emulate. As Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), Uzodinma has continued to champion initiatives that empower young people, stimulate enterprise, attract investment, and create sustainable employment opportunities.
Arodiogbu urged other state governments across Nigeria to prioritise similar investments in technology, innovation, and digital skills development, stressing that such projects are critical to Nigeria’s economic competitiveness in the 21st century.
He highlighted that Imo Digital City aligns closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on digital transformation, youth empowerment, and the development of a knowledge-based economy.
With its combination of skills training, indigenous manufacturing, startup support, and innovation laboratories, the Imo Digital City is increasingly being regarded as Nigeria’s answer to Silicon Valley a bold statement of intent that the next generation of African technology giants can and will emerge from the heart of the South-East.
“Today’s world is driven by knowledge and technology. Countries are competing through innovation, not only natural resources. Imo Digital City is a statement that the South-East is ready to participate fully in the digital economy. Our universities produce brilliant graduates every year. What they need is an environment where ideas can become businesses. A digital city provides that bridge between education, innovation and economic opportunity,” he added.
Dr. Arodiogbu urged young people across Imo State and beyond to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the Digital City, describing it as a platform capable of transforming lives and rewriting Nigeria’s technological narrative on the global stage. He also called on investors, technology companies and development partners to support initiatives that promote digital transformation and youth empowerment.
