Today, as the world marks International Youth Day under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” I join the global community in celebrating the energy, resilience, creativity and boundless potential of young people everywhere.
Young people across nations live in different realities, shaped by geography, economy, culture, climate and access to opportunity. Yet their deepest aspirations remain remarkably similar: dignity, quality education, decent work, meaningful participation, good health and a sustainable future.
This truth resonates strongly in Nigeria and across Africa, where millions of young people continue to demonstrate courage, innovation and determination even in the face of significant challenges.
In the South East and throughout our nation, young people are not merely the leaders of tomorrow; they are already leading today, as innovators, entrepreneurs, community builders, digital creators, professionals and agents of positive change. Their determination reminds us that meaningful progress is possible when we deliberately invest in their skills, ideas, wellbeing and aspirations.
As a public health practitioner and party leader, I remain committed to supporting policies and platforms that expand opportunities, strengthen education and skills development, promote digital inclusion, support youth entrepreneurship and create pathways for meaningful participation in governance and national development.
No young person should be left behind because of where they were born or the circumstances they face.
On this International Youth Day, I call on governments, institutions, the private sector and civil society to deepen their partnerships with young people. Let us listen more carefully, invest more boldly and create greater space for their voices in decision-making. Global solidarity and local action must go hand in hand.
To the young people of Nigeria and the world: your aspirations are valid, your contributions are essential, and your future is worth fighting for.
Keep rising.
Keep innovating.
Keep believing.
Together, across different contexts, we can build the common future we all desire.
