TINUBU TAKES STEPS TO EASE TRANSPORT COSTS, ARODIOGBU URGES SUPPORT FOR REFORMS

The APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for introducing measures to cushion the effects of rising petrol prices and transportation costs.

Arodiogbu highlighted the decision by NNPC Retail to forgo its petrol retail profit margin and sell fuel at cost as a measure aimed at easing the burden on Nigerians, particularly transport operators, traders, farmers and small-business owners.

He noted that the intervention, alongside other proposed measures, reflects the government’s efforts to address economic hardship while sustaining reforms designed to strengthen the economy.

Other initiatives include forward crude oil sales to support domestic refineries, a proposed petrol cost ceiling, stricter enforcement against excessive transport-related levies, expanded support for vulnerable households and the accelerated rollout of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), which could offer participating transport operators a cheaper alternative to petrol.

Arodiogbu said reducing transportation and logistics costs will help moderate the prices of food and essential commodities, improve business operations and ease pressure on household budgets.

He urged transport unions, petroleum marketers, state governments and private investors to cooperate in implementing the measures and ensure that any cost savings translate into more affordable fares for passengers.

While acknowledging the hardship Nigerians have experienced following the removal of petrol subsidies, the APC chieftain maintained that targeted interventions and responsible implementation are essential to making economic reforms more responsive to citizens’ needs.

He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will maintain transparency, publish clear implementation guidelines and regularly assess the impact of the measures on transport fares, food prices and household welfare.

Arodiogbu urged Nigerians to engage constructively with the reform process, stressing that effective implementation, increased domestic refining capacity and wider adoption of alternative fuels will reduce transportation costs and strengthen economic resilience.

He further urged Nigerians to support Mr. President’s efforts in driving Nigeria to Renewed greatness as Federal government’s policies is aimed at improvements in the lives of Nigerians, including lower transport and logistics costs, improved access to essential goods and services, and stronger opportunities for businesses and households.
