REFLECTIONS ON IMO STATE GOLDEN JUBILEE: A PERSONAL PRIVILEGE AND VISION FOR PROGRESS

As a proud son of Imo State and a dedicated advocate for progress and unity, I have always held deep admiration for the resilience, intellectual depth, and cultural richness that define Ndị Imo. The Imo State Golden Jubilee Celebration, commemorating 50 years since our creation on February 3, 1976, has been a profoundly inspiring chapter in our collective story. This week-long reflection from February 1 to 7, 2026 transcended mere festivities, offering a powerful opportunity to honour our journey through challenges, triumphs, and remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s development.

The events captured the essence of who we are: the interdenominational thanksgiving service fostering gratitude and unity; the vibrant cultural night celebrating our Igbo heritage through dance, music, and cuisine; the youth-focused online quiz affirming education as our greatest strength; and the novelty football match symbolizing teamwork and communal spirit. These moments reminded us that our progress is rooted in faith, heritage, and innovation.

The grand finale on February 7 at Government House in Owerri stood as the pinnacle of this milestone. In the presence of Vice President Kashim Shettima representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, esteemed governors, royal fathers, and distinguished dignitaries, we witnessed the unveiling of the commemorative book “Imo@50: The Full Story” and the honouring of fifty trailblazers who shaped our legacy. These elements encapsulated our evolution from a starting budget of N259 million to N1.4 trillion today and affirmed Imo’s role as Nigeria’s intellectual engine in politics, literature, Nollywood, agriculture, and emerging digital innovation.

I am immensely privileged to attend this grand finale, standing among leaders who embody vision and excellence. This experience renews my dedication to service, unity under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and building on Governor Hope Uzodimma’s transformative 3R strides. Imo’s story inspires me to contribute even more to a future of shared prosperity, peace, and national cohesion.

May divine wisdom guide our leaders, strengthening the bonds that hold our federation together, and may the next fifty years bring even greater achievements, peace, and fulfilment for every citizen. In this spirit of hope and renewal, Imo and Nigeria will continue to shine as exemplars of resilience and progress.
